Ibn Khaldun’s Early Life and Education...

Ibn Khaldun’s Early Life and Education   Ibn Khaldun has been an inspiration to the Islamic society and even the whole world.  He was a historian, politician, and social philosopher.  Ibn Khaldun is a pioneer in the study of sociology.  He heavily contributed to the study and understanding of one’s civilization.  He lived up to his family’s expectations, since they were all scholars and politicians.  He was a descendant of a well-known family, in which he carried on its respectful traditions and fortunes.   Ibn Khaldun was born in Tunisia, on May 27, 1932 in Ramadan, after his family’s migration from Andalusia to North Africa, in the middle of the 17th century of the Hijra.  In his autobiography, he says that he is from a Yemenite origin Arabs of Hadramaut.  His family tree goes up to Wail ibn Hajar.  This is based on the genealogist’s report, Ibn Hazm.   He read and learned the Quran, as well as, the prophet’s sayings, in which he based his morals and ethic.  In Tunis, he had eminent professors, who taught him grammar and rhetoric.  He specialized in the branch of knowledge that deals with the structure, historical development, and the relation of a language or languages.  He also specialized in poetry.  Moreover, Ibn Khaldun studied philosophy and logic.  As Ibn Khaldun finished his studies at the age of eighteen, the “sweeping plague” has just arrived in Tunis killing everyone the historian was close too, including his parents and great professors.  He, then, decided to immigrate to Mauritania, since most of known friends and professors had made this decision.  This was also due to the fact that he could not continue his studies while he had this feeling of resentment and discontented.  However, this idea has been prevented...
